Die Baustelle: Interview with Sharon Dodua Otoo

Sharon Dodua Otoo participated in the project "Die Baustelle. Aus Konservierung wird Konversation", which aimed to create a democratic space within a museum setting. The project sought to address questions such as how a museum can become a place for shared memories in a diverse society, and how to include a variety of voices without resorting to superficial or one-time events. Otoo, a writer and political activist, contributed new texts to the project. She is known for her prose and essays, and her debut novel "Ada's Raum" (2021) has been translated into several languages. and in 2016, she won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize. https://sharonotoo.com/bio More about "Die Baustelle. UNTANGLE THE THREADS

Unlocked sound of unlocking threads Video: Salman Abdo, Fadi Elias Performing hands: Dr. Peju Layiwola The screened audiovisuals of the Benin Bronzes are a sensory experience into the feelings of the treasures. The idea started with an abstract recording of Prof. Peju Layiwola releasing the numbered labels from the treasures, as a metaphorical freedom giving to the Benin Bronzen. All recorded treasures are usually in glassboxes where visitors can only see them from a distance; but what does it feel to touch those, and how does that sound? The idea became clearer as Peju Layiwola was handling one of the bells from the Benin Bronzes, while moving the work a sound came out, you wouldn’t hear this sound unless you can touch it. Through this installation; we wanted to expand the museum experience not only by watching treasures and other elements from a distance inside protected glassboxes, but to include a hearing process of how it actually sounds to touch the work as a new form of storytelling. Learning and unlearning and re-learning love What is love and how does each of us relate to it? How have we learned about love and what has love taught us? How has love changed our lives and how does it change .... Three queer artists from Cologne tell about the love in their childhood, their first love stories, the exclusion dynamics of love that do not reflect the diversity of identities and their own definition of love. Lex Ley Ghafouri, also known as Lex, an Iranian-German mixed, independent, and non-binary artist based in Cologne, Germany. Since 2012, Lex has been working in the music industry, supporting new artists and helping them find their voices through the writing of lyrics and recording of vocals and guitars for selected projects. They began their journey in electronic music production in their hometown in Egypt in 2011, and in 2017 moved to Germany to continue making their own music. Jane, also known as Femdom, is a nonbinary artist based in Cologne, Germany. They have had success with live shows, including at the Schwuz in Berlin, and are set to release their first album «WET» on November 11th through their label ADHD records. Femdom›s music is characterized by smooth beats and sublime rhythms, combined with soft vocals and a salacious undertone. In their lyrics, the artist shares their perspective on healing, consent, and sex from a Black queer perspective, giving anger the space it sometimes needs to breathe in their music.
