Auto-configure new member channels to install multiple addons?

I have a variety of users coming on board with a range of skill from "I install Arch for fun" to "I'm scared to press that button labeled INSTALL". It seems a big ask to tell them all to please add:

Affinity Tool
Bookmarks
Calendar
Channel sources
Chatrooms
Connections
Directory
Files
Guest Access
Mood
Notes
Photos
Privacy Groups
Public Stream
Web Pages
Wiki

To their channels. Is there a way to either configure new channels to automatically have these addons when they're created, or to add them as the admin after?

I checked the administrator guide and did not see anything like this.

Some of those are automatic, such as Calendar, Connections, Directory, Files, and Photos. And those others just clutter up their interface if they are not going to use it.

For example, they only need to activate the web pages one if they are creating web pages. Most of your users will not be creating their own web pages, so they don't need it.

Virtually all of my users need webpages, even if they don’t know it yet.

When they need it, they can turn it on.

In my experience, when you give new users too many features that they don't need, you just wind up overwhelming them. They may need it later, but it's better if they turn it on when they need it.

Perhaps what is needed is a better interface so that users can easily enable these features themselves when they need them.

When I first tried Hubzilla, I turned stuff off because it cluttered up the interface. Having extra buttons that I don't use and don't understand just made Hubzilla more confusing.

And freakin' ActivityPub??? I can't even begin to understand why this core functionality of Hubzilla isn't part of the default config.

Because once any connector that isn't #Zot is on, #Hubzilla quits being 100% nomadic. And it was originally created to be as nomadic as possible.

since it is easily possible within the hubzilla part of the fediverse to move one's account to another server, this is of course no hurdle, @Crow . and it was one of the decisive elements of hubzilla for lots of members, so it is a very good marketing choice. i am uncertain if it's a good idea to try to draw lots of people into the hubzilla net who are unable to see and appreciate this great feature ...

Given that #Hubzilla's major hurdle is "more users" not "can I move to another server" this seems like a poor marketing choice.

#NomadicIdentity is not just about "can I move to another server", it's much more about "can I have my channel mirrored on 6 hubs at the same time, just in case 5 of them shut down/in case The Powers That Be have 5 of them blocked on a national level".

Getting people in is more important than being able for any of them to move seamlessly once they're in.

#Hubzilla is not #Mastodon. Its main goal is not to have millions upon millions of users. It'd have a much much harder time providing them with virtual homes anyway, also because one Hubzilla hub can't hold nearly as many users on the same hardware as one Mastodon instance, especially not if people fired up lots and lots of extra apps.

The impact per user would be even bigger if a significant amount of users went fully nomadic and kept mirrors of their channels on two, three, four, five or more hubs for redundancy and resilience.

If we compare the growth of Mastodon and the growth of Hubzilla, I think it's fair to say that Hubzilla hasn't made any good marketing choices.

Neither Mastodon nor Hubzilla has any marketing. Mastodon is 100% grass roots. It got so well-known only from word-of-mouth between mostly Twitter refugees and a little bit of confused and overwhelmed media coverage.

Also, I guess many of those who have heard about Hubzilla through Mastodon don't want to use Hubzilla. What they need is a little bit of microblogging and digital socialising. They don't need a feature monster that combines Facebook, WordPress, Flickr, Dropbox and just about all Google cloud services in existence under one roof. They know they couldn't handle it anyway. It scares them. I mean, hardly anyone from them even dares to switch to Friendica.

Hubzilla does have the potential to support millions of users, on a decentralized basis, but the redbasic theme and the Hubzilla core are more suited for individual users and small hubs. That is one of the reasons why I am working on Neuhub, which will provide an interface that is more suitable for public hubs and communities.

I've talked about it before. Different use cases need different user interfaces, even if the underlying technology is the same. For example, the difference between a discussion group and a forum is mostly presentation. A personal hub needs a different interface than a public hub or a website with forums.

And @Crow, based on what you described, your site may benefit from a unique interface as well.

I'm working on some new interfaces that I hope to have rolled out soon. I think they will be a game changer.
