@!Hubzilla Support Forum On my hub, the directory is broken since some month. It shows only two channels from my hub (which have channel role "private"), while there are about 14 channels with channel role "public" which are not shown. Changing the channel roles has no effect. Changing privacy setting "Opt-out of search engine indexing" has no effect. Thanks for some help!

Changing the directory server

If a directory server indicates that it is no longer a directory server, this should be detected by the software and the configuration for that server will be removed (blanked). If it goes offline permanently without warning, you will only know if site members report that directory services are unavailable. Currently this can only be repaired manually by the site administrator by selecting a new directory and performing:

util/config system directory_server https://newdirectory.something

and have a look here also:

@RockyIII Thanks. But I still don't get how these directory servers work.
In the Directory Server URL in /admin/site/ there's a dropdown with three options:

I added https://zotsite.net with util/config system directory_server https://zotsite.net. After doing so, /siteinfo.json states https://zotsite.net as the directory server. /directory?f=&global=0 is unpopulated with this directory server chosen (0 channels).

Under /admin/site -> Directory Server, https://zotsite.net is not offered as an option after being added with util/config system directory_server.

So under /admin/site I can set one of the three options shown above, the setting seems to be applied in all 3 options (as I can see it under /siteinfo.json). Results of /directory?f=&global=0:

https://hub.netzgemeinde.eu : 2 channels
https://hub.libranet.de : 0 channels
https://zapalot.in-eu.net : 0 channels

it used to work fine with zotsite.net but as mario said - there are some problems with this server. lately ..
and
hub.netzgemeinde.eu shows just a few channels of one of my hubs... :-(

Just in case you missed the message: zotsite.net is having issues at the moment and you should select a different directory server...

Thanks @Mario Vavti. But what does my description above mean then? That also the other three Directory Servers are broken, when they don't list all channels on my hub?
If they're broken, do you know about a Directory Server which is running without any issues?

Sorry i misread your question. There is the setting when you edit your default profile Publish my default profile in the network directory. This is the only setting which has an effect on visibility in the directory.

on other d-servers than zotsite the channels will only be listed if a recen change is made e.g. in the profile of the channel. just click on edit profile and on save und you will see the channel in the directory

on zotsite this is not needed - i think

I tried, without any channels shown, even after editing profile.
Also with hub.netzgemeinde.eu as directory server still only the same two channels shown, even after editing profile.

As an aside, perhaps it would be useful to have a fallback server defined in Hubzilla that can be used if it can't reach the primary?
